S60 ONLINE Blog: Sign and install unsigned S60 apps! No hacking, no OpenSigned, no developer certificate required!

  • Ravindra · 1 year ago
This is Good Vlad but only works with newer BINPDA releases, and does not apply for all unsigned files.
  • Vlad · 1 year ago
Yes it does. Just use RootSign.exe (from the package I linked to) to sign unsigned files before transferring to your phone (as described in the post). I successfully installed unsigned versions of RotateMe and Rock'n'Scroll this way. This was the whole reason I wrote this post. As for BiNPDA 'releases' (which were definitely NOT the purpose of this post, I do NOT want to encourage that), you are right. However older ones can still be signed with RootSign.exe, just like any other unsigned app.

    Hi Vlad,
If you didn't already read my reply to your comment on my blog, I just wanted to say that this SHOULD be considered a hack. You're taking advantage of FCA00000's AppTRK exploit to gain full access to C:\, Secman then copies its custom root cert over. Besides, what are you gonna do when you're away from your computer?

Fact of the matter is that this IS A HACK. Nokia didn't intend for you to gain access to C:\ and that's exactly what this process has to do. I don't see why you're afraid of the hacks anyway... They've only brought about good things to the Symbian community (including secman) so I feel that everybody should embrace the hacks, acknowledge FCA00000's requests by GIVING BLOOD and stick up their middle fingers to Stupid Symbian Signed.

    Mr-X.

Hail Hail to BinPDA!! and thanks to Vlad for bringing this to my attention.
I tried both ROMPatcher and the Python hacks without success and I am still stuck with a non-working ROMPatcher that wont even uninstall (If anyone know how to get rid of it, pls tell me.)
Finally thanks to this supercool BinPDA rootsigner i can install my favourite progs and can sell my N73 that I had kept just because I couldnt install some needful things on my N95!
    Thanks again Vlad.

    @MrX
the ROMPatcher obviously doesnt work with some newer branded FW (mine for instance). SO Hacks are good when they work, but this is a way smarter and safer apoproach. I would still like to know how to get rid of that non working ROMPatcher.

I have used ROOTSIGN.exe on my computer to sign rotateMe_2_0.sis - and i get the following error....

    "CERTIFICATE FILE SIGNING FAILED!"

Please advise why it could not sign this SIS file.

    Thanks!

I was also unable to install on n82. "Component is built-in" .
  • Vlad · 1 year ago
"Component built in" shows up in newer firmware versions, where this method doesn't work anymore. For some of these, the following method seems to work:

However, I have not tried this myself, so I can not guarantee that it works.
